Flying with Children-

While travelling with children in an airplane, certain rules of behavior should be followed.

This can be a very trying experience for all involved including the children. Long flights can become very boring and especially hard on toddlers. With some careful planning you can help to make it a good experience. Pick up toys you think they would enjoy and hide them until the trip. New toys along with old toys will help in occupying them if you allow them to play with one at a time. When traveling with children you should allow yourself extra time in the airport. They will more than likely slow you down and you might have to stop for a potty break, mix a bottle of formula or rest if it's a long walk.

Although children are not required to use child restraint systems when flying, it is highly recommended. Most children will sit better if they are in restraint systems than if they are free to move around. Children under the age of two are allowed to sit in your lap, but if the child does not sit well in your lap at home then they will certainly not sit in your lap during the flight. It's a new world to them and can be very exciting. If you can afford it you might consider purchasing a seat for them of their own.

You might want to consider having older children carry back-packs as their carry on. This can hold their toys and snacks while taking a strain off you. Stock their bags with books, paper, coloring books, crayons, small toys, music player and a change of clothes in case of a spill or lost luggage. You will want to provide snacks that are not messy. Cereal, cereal bars, travel mix and dried fruits are a good choice. If your child is old enough, pack them sugar free gum to help in aiding with ear problems.

Always be sure to keep a close eye on your children and try to seat them away from the isle. You are responsible to keep them under control and as quiet as possible because not all passengers are tolerant to a child's behavior. If your child is kicking the back of a seat or jumping up and down it will get your neighboring passengers upset in a hurry.

When traveling with an infant, carry a large purse to help carry baby supplies and toys. Disposable bibs and disposable bottle liners will be a big help for you. Among your items you will want to bring along a scarf or shawl to use if breast feeding. When traveling with toddlers be sure to bring their utensils, sippy cup and bowl. more travel articles >>
